How to Cook Spaghetti Squash


Up until two days ago, I had zero idea how to deal with this thing called spaghetti squash. These balls of vegetable always intimidated me when I saw them in the store, sitting there in a giant pile, waiting to pummel to the floor.  However, I finally took the plunge and picked one up at the store a few days ago, determined to master this giant, melon shaped weird thing. Luckily, I didn't need much gusto at all -- it turns out that these are SO easy to cook, and super delicious to eat! I should have bought more than one...I need these things in my life. Yay VEGGIES. 


Here's how I make my spaghetti squash: 

1.) Preheat oven to 400 F 

2.) Wash the squash, and slice it vertically down the middle  

3.) Scoop out the seeds and the dark yellow/orange pulpy stuff (you can save the seeds for roasting, if you want!) 

4.) Place halves on a baking sheet, skin side down (the insides side up). Sprinkle some sea salt and pepper on the insides of the squash 

5.) Cook squash for 45 minutes 

6.) Remove squash from oven 

7.) Using a fork, press down into one side of the spaghetti squash halve and, essentially, rake the fork down the side of the squash, making a pile of noodles in the middle of the squash. Always rake down in the direction that the noodles are going!

8.) Serve with extra virgin olive oil, tomatoes, salt & pepper, other fun spices, and/or meat!
