Pore-Unclogging Face Mask + Spot Treatment

i'm doing one of these face masks right now! gah! i've tried every DIY face mask out there, from oatmeal & yogurt, to avocados, to honey & banana. this one, i can 100% say,  is the most beneficial for my skin**.  i use this a few nights a week, after i cleanse my face with some  oils. once i take the mask off, my skin looks much less porous, and it feels incredibly soft, clean, and happy!

on the nights i don't use do this face mask, i'll use it as a spot treatment. i used to use benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid from CVS. now, i've switched to this natural method because it's even more effective than the drugstore stuff, i can make it at home, and it's way less harsh on my skin. no chemicals -- yay! i leave this spot treatment on overnight and wash it off with a warm washcloth in the morning.

**according to my very scientific observations (using my bathroom mirror), i have "combination skin" -- dry in some parts, oily in others. so, this mask works especially well for those oily parts on my face. for people with really dry skin, this might not be a very useful mask, since it does completely clean & dry out those oily areas. as with any new face product, i'd recommend  experimenting with the mask on a small part of your face, and then observing how your skin takes it.

so what is the secret ingredient that makes this face mask and spot treatment amazingly potent? THIS STUFF!!  (sold on Amazon, at Vitamin Shoppe, and i'm sure other places!)

if you didn't click on the link (because lazy), this magical stuff is a huge jar of 100% pure calcium bentonite clay. yup, that's right. CLAY. i'm telling you, it literally pulls any dirt or oils that are stuck in your pores right out. the jar even says "FEEL YOUR FACE PULSATE". it's so cool, i love it, and i'll shut up now so you can go buy this stuff and make the recipe below. happy facialing!!

the best {pore unclogging} face mask + spot treatment

  • 2 teaspoons Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
  • 6 drops essential oil**
  • 1 teaspoon warm water, or 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar toner

  1. in a small Dixie cup, stir all ingredients together and mix well
  2. once evenly blended, apply a thin layer to face (it'll start out as liquid-y and smooth, and then it'll harden on your skin)
  3. leave on for 10 to 30 minutes
  4. wash off with a warm wash cloth. gently pat face dry

  • **i use 3 drops lavender (calming, relaxing), and 3 drops tea tree essential oil (antibacterial, antimicrobial. tea tree oil works just like salicylic acid does! this essential oil is a very powerful spot treatment on its own.)
  • if using only as a spot treatment, divide the recipe in half (3 drops essential oils, 1 teaspoon clay, 1/2 teaspoon water/ACV toner) since you won't need that much product
